Viewers Vote Locally Produced Film into Cinequest Film Festival

Locally produced Mission Movie/Una Película de la Misión won a spot in the upcoming Cinequest Film Festival, held March 2-13 in San Jose, CA.  The Viewers Voice Competition, held online during the month of February, awarded a special screening slot to the feature films that garnered the highest rankings from online viewers.

The amount of support we received from our fans was just incredible, said Lise Swenson, the director of Mission Movie.  This is such a high-profile festival to get here in such a grassroots way is really in the spirit of our film, which was created as a community collaborative.
Mission Movie will screen Sunday, March 6, 2005, 11:00 a.m. at Camera 12, 201 South Second Street, San Jose.

At its U.S. Premiere in July, Mission Movie was named Best Feature Film at the New York International Latino Film Festival and was awarded an HBO cash prize.  Since New York, it has also screened and won awards in Boston, Mill Valley, Madrid, and is set to screen in Chicago in April.

Mission Movie, a passionate, soulful urban drama about the inner life of San Francisco's most diverse enclave, tells five intersecting stories that take place over one summer. Based on true life stories from the neighborhood, the cast is led by veteran Columbian actor Diego Vasquez and includes many Bay Area actors, including cameos by well-known artists and activists. In true form to the Mission District, the bilingual film features both Spanish and English subtitles.
