Mission Movie, the new independent feature film set in San Francisco’s
Mission District, will follow its wildly successful one-night local debut
with its’ North American Premier at the New York International
Latino Film Festival July 31ST at 1:00 p.m. and August 1ST at noon.
Directed by award-winning Bay Area filmmaker Lise Swenson, Mission Movie
played to an enthusiastic crowd of over 2,000 at a community screening
June 4. The film’s focus on the Mission District, a predominantly
Latino neighborhood, made it a prime candidate to be one of five domestic
feature films selected for the festival.
Mission Move is a passionate and soulful urban drama that tells five
intersecting stories that take place over one summer in the Mission District
of San Francisco. Based on true-life stories, the cast is led by veteran
Columbian actor Diego Vasquez and includes many Bay Area actors, including
cameos by well-known artists and activists. In true form to the Mission
District, the bilingual film features both Spanish and English subtitles.
The New York International Latino Film Festival (NYILFF) is a premiere
film festival presenting the works of Latino artists and people of Latin
American descent. The festival braids together Latinos in Hollywood and
the independent film industry, along with aficionados and students of
film and the arts. For more information, visit www.nylatinofilm.com.
More about Mission Movie:
The concept for the film was born when Director Lise Swenson gathered
a group of San Francisco artists and media makers and real-life stories
of the Mission District. Swenson is an award-winning filmmaker who has
been deeply involved with media arts in the Bay Area since the early 1980s.
In 1999 she received the San Francisco Bay Guardian Goldie Award for outstanding
achievement in film and video. She also received a prestigious Creative
Work Fund grant to collaborate with Southern Exposure in the development
phase of the project, which led to the creation of the feature-length
film.
