Silent Art Auction
San Francisco April 12, 2004
An extravagant benefit dinner for the
local, independent film Mission Movie will be held at CELLspace April
29, 2004,
at 6 p.m.
All proceeds will benefit Mission Movie, the forthcoming feature film
about San Franciscoís Mission District. Directed by Bay Area artist
and filmmaker Lise Swenson, Mission Movie will have its first public
screening at a gala community event on June 4, 2004, in Mission Village.
Tickets to the benefit are $50, with a discounted $35 rate for students,
artists, and nonprofit workers. CELLspace is located at 2050 Bryant (between
18th and 19th Streets).
Mission Movie is a passionate, soulful urban drama about the inner life
of San Franciscoís most diverse neighborhood. Led by veteran Columbian
actor Diego Vasquez and supported by Bay Area actors, the film tells
five intersecting stories that take place over one summer. In true form
to the Mission District, it features cameos by well-known artists and
activists and will feature both Spanish and English subtitles
The benefit dinneróa lavish four-course meal, including wineówill
be accompanied by live performances by JouJou, Carolyn Rider Cooley,
Laurie Amat, Jose Navarrete & Debby Kajimaya, Clandistine Tribal
Belly Dance, Kid Beyond, Go Van Gogh, Cherry & Duck, Kristina, Iris
and more surprise guests. The silent art auction will showcase more than
25 pieces by local artists, including Carolyn Rider Cooley, Aaron Noble,
Megan Wilson, Scott Williams, Scott McLeod, Alicia McCarthy, Rene Yanez
and Rigo. There will also be a sneak peak at the film and other items
up for auction.
