San Francisco, September 20, 2003—KRON 4’s popular entertainment magazine show LatinEyes will air a behind-the-scenes look at Mission Movie on September 28, 2003, at 10 a.m. and noon. Now in post-production, with release expected by the end of the year, Mission Movie is an urban drama about San Francisco’s Mission District.

LatinEyes reporter Nancy Rosales, who first heard about the movie on Chuy Gomez’s morning radio show on KMEL, made several visits to rehearsals and the film set over the course of pre-production and production. The progressive footage will come together on Sunday’s show in a segment highlighting the independent film’s collaborative process, in addition to a sneak peak at scenes from the movie.

In the film, the powerful mix of race and insecurity collides with a neighborhood on the verge of transition in an exploration of urbanites and their turf. For the feature-length narrative, real-life stories were turned over to the cast of actors, who were guided in improvisational rehearsals to generate action and dialogue for the script. A white muralist, a third-generation Latina restaurant owner, a Central American immigrant couple, and the Palestinian owner of a corner store are among the central characters whose lives intertwine as they are at the same time shaken up.

LatinEyes, which has been airing since 1999, celebrates diversity as it spotlights arts and entertainment, news, and cultural events that impact the lives of Latin Americans in the Bay Area and beyond. The program’s celebrity interviews have included Benjamin Bratt, Carlos Santana, John Leguizamo, and George Lopez. Rosales, who ended up with a cameo in the movie, plans to follow up this segment on Mission Movie with another when the film reaches completion.
